Minerals Are Life

Minerals, how to get more energy, adrenal fatigue, fighting fatigue, magnesium, mineral mock tail, mineral drinks

I was at a baby shower this weekend drinking a glass of orange juice and my friend asked, “Are your minerals in there?!”

Sadly no, but they should have been. Honestly, I should start carrying travel packs for not only myself, but for my friends as well. The more I learn about minerals the more I want everyone to have some. They are so so so vital for pretty much every process in the body, and we need them daily. I won’t go through all the processes today, but I’ll dive into how it impact your energy since that is the most common goal I get on client forms (more energy).

To sum it up: if you are low on minerals you will be low on energy. We need a handful of minerals like magnesium to literally create energy from food. We give so much focus on macronutrients, which is important, but the little guys have just as much power in creating long lasting energy. AKA if you feel like crap most days, you’re probably needing more minerals. As I mentioned it’s great that we give a lot of attention to macronutrients, but we simply can’t absorb and create energy properly without the help of minerals.

Magnesium in particular is very important when it comes to energy. It is part of the last step (and many others) in creating ATP which is the form of energy our body creates to function. Most people I work with are very low on magnesium due to lack of nutrients in the diet and/or extreme stress. Physical and emotional stress can force the body to burn through magnesium pretty quickly and when we also don’t have enough of that magical mineral coming in…. Well, you feel like crap.

Side note: caffeine can actually be one of those stressors. Some studies show caffeine decreased the absorption of minerals like magnesium. It also makes it harder for the adrenals to create proper hormones for energy. So while caffeine gives you energy short term, it can deplete energy long term.

OK, so how do we get more of these amazing minerals? I’m glad you asked. Food first as always, but because our soil is so depleted in rich minerals it’s highly recommended to have a daily mineral mock-tail. That is alllllllll the craze in the functional nutrition world. It’s pretty much as popular as the Stanley water cup.

My favorite minerals are Rayvi minerals in the pineapple flavor, but there are sooooo many easy recipes you can do at home. I just love having a mix that has a good balance of minerals. This one in particular is packed with potassium and some magnesium as well. If you are looking for just magnesium, I really like the Jigsaw health brand. I also recommend buying any supplements directly from the source or a credible website because you’re neverrrr really sure what is coming from the amazon factory. Every single one of my clients gets access to my professional grade supplements (with a discount :)) This way I know they are getting the best quality!
