How a Stressed Out Liver Can Impact Weight Loss

Weight loss, liver health, liver disease, carbohydrates, low carb, metabolism health, nutritionist

The liver plays a huge role in metabolizing carbs and using it for energy appropriately. If the liver is stressed out it can make it harder to lose weight or you may feel like you gain weight really easily. So then you may avoid carbs, which I totally get! It’s not fun to gain weight, but unfortunately that continues to perpetuate the cycle. Essentially it can make it harder and harder to be at a healthy weight and where you may experience “yo-yo dieting”. Sound familiar?

One of the ways we can help break this cycle is to make sure you have enough magnesium. Magnesium helps the liver function well and it can specifically turn carbs into energy appropriately. This doesn’t mean magnesium is secretly a weight loss pill, but it’s still really important for a healthy metabolism. Magnesium is typically low in clients I see because:

  1. They’re not getting enough magnesium from food. Either from not eating a balanced diet or the soil their produce is coming from is depleted (many farms in America are depleted).

  2. Magnesium is used very quickly when the body is under extra stress, physically and emotionally. That stress can look like exercising too much, long work hours, not eating enough, living through a pandemic, no connection or community, mental health status or sleep issues.

Check out more labs I order when I work with clients by joining my email list! I’ll be dropping a new freebie in the next week that is alllllll about labs and weight loss resistance. Join here
