3 Foods to Decrease Stress & Feel More Energized

Adrenal fatigue, magnesium foods, healthy foods, nutritionist, Kansas City dietitian, Kansas City nutritionist

There are a lot of foods that can help us decrease stress in the body and allow it to function at its best, which means YOU will feel your best. That leads to more motivation, the ability to be more present and just feel like you’re actually living. Say goodbye to brain fog and hello to your best days yet when you eat foods that support your body.

I find this so important because we are never going to be able to totally eliminate stress in the external world (like our kids, jobs and other life things), but we can make choices that will help our bodies be more resilient to stress. So we are essentially “strengthening the stress muscle” by providing the body food with specific nutrients and helping it to be stronger when stress does rise (and it will).

So, today we are going to focus on the top foods for MAGNESIUM. I talk about this mineral a lot because it is VITAL for decreasing stress in the body and to build strength against stress. We literally burn through more magnesium when we’re fighting through a stressful season annnnd it’s needed for thousands of processes in the body so it’s important to say the least.

Magnesium is important for:

  • Vitamin D activation (meaning our body can’t use Vitamin D unless we have enough magnesium)

  • Increasing stomach acid which is a root cause for SO many gut issues I see like bloating

  • Increasing insulin sensitivity. This is needed to get glucose into the cell for energy and decrease the rate at which we store it as fat

  • Increase B vitamins in the body. These are used for energy production, metabolism and optimal levels of stomach acid (so think gut health)

When any of those main points listed above are out of balance, inflammation and stress increase in the body. This makes it even harder to deal with external stresses. Do you see the negative cycle that can happen when we aren’t getting enough nutrients? Specifically magnesium? Maybe this is why you have some symptoms pop up from stress like bloating, weight gain and anxiety?

Here is the thing, we can’t always control external stresses, but we have control over most internal stresses if we take care of our bodies. That’s why I find posts like these SO important. People need to know what foods will help them live their best life! So let’s dive into the top 3 foods sources for the MAGICAL MAGNESIUM!

PUMPKIN SEEDS | Add these to salads or snack in between meals

CHIA SEEDS | These can also be added to salads or my favorite is to add them to an overnight oats recipe

SPINACH | Here is a post on easy ways to add spinach to your diet
